The veldskoen is a traditional South African walking shoe. Traditionally made from vegetable tanned leather or soft raw hide uppers attached to a leather footbed and rubber sole without tacks or nails. The name comes from the Afrikaans vel and skoen meaning bush and shoe. Vellies, the colloquial name for these shoes, have grown in popularity and in more recent times become a popular formal shoe.
